Del Mar City Hall (AR403) Spring 2010

Continuing from the previous quarter, I picked a building on our proposed site and began to research/program/design it. In our first quarter of Urban Design, we noted that Del Mar lacked an adequate City Hall and also that the downtown district was strong at one end, and weak on the other. We proposed to place the new City Hall on the weak end of downtown Del Mar (south end) to establish a gesture of hello/goodbye to those entering and leaving Del Mar and as a whole it will create a stronger downtown district. More info and refinement coming later...

Site Design!

After our first quarter of Urban Design, our assignment was to focus on one site within our given community and design the site. This site that my partner David and I designed includes a proposed City Hall, restaurant, shops, cafe's, amphitheater, and a park.

AR303 - San Diego Highspeed Transit Station

This quarter was all about longspan structures. This station is an open-air structure with a massive space-frame providing protection from the elements.

AR302 - Mixed-use highrise - Winter 2009

Part of the USGBC design competition, my partner Arnoldo and I designed a LEED Gold Highrise which focuses on grey water recycling, power generation (wind/solar), and passive cooling/heating techniques. 12 stories of residential units feature community spaces for every three floors to create a more community feel to highrise living. Oh yeah, we placed 3rd in the competition.

AR301 - Restaurant - Fall 2008

This is the beginning of my 3rd year of Architecture school, which is basically the year we learn everything about structure. This quarter we got to plan an extension to Balboa Park which included a library, museum, theater, artists studio, something else i can't remember.... and a restaurant! Having experience in the restaurant industry, i was excited to design my own restaurant. After working in the horrible non-functional plan of PF Changs @ Otay Ranch, I thought I could put way more functionality into a restaurant design. well... here it is.
